LAS VEGAS GOURMET RESTAURANTS

Andre's
French, Gourmet
401 S. Sixth St. (702) 385-5016
$35 or more
Hours: Monday-Saturday, 6:00 p.m.-until the last reservation.
Review: The downtown Andre's is rustic and friendly, while on the Strip (in the Monte Carlo hotel-casino)
a more formal and elegant setting surrounds the haute and bourgeois French cuisine that has kept
Andre Rochat at the forefront of local restaurateurs for more than fifteen years. Rochat and his
talented staff--aided by some solid cooking--have even managed to keep their cool and their
customer base despite the continuing folly of downtown redevelopment. His devoted regulars,
from high-powered locals to high-rolling visitors, swear by his classic renditions of sole meuniere,
seared foie gras with apple puree, balsamic glaze and roasted hazelnuts, rack of lamb, and some
killer souffles. Our favorite, Grand Marnier, is worth the trip in itself. Beware handing the award-winning
wine list to an oenophile--they could get lost in its treasure-filled pages for hours. -- Las Vegas Life

Review: Celebrity chef Charlie Palmer's expanded version of his New York City classic is
architecturally stunning (it boasts a nice three-story wine tower in the middle of the restaurant
as well as a private pond with its own swans) and has a wine list that even the most pretentious
snob will delight in. Then there's the food. The menu changes seasonally, and the tasting menu
(which really shows off the abilities of the kitchen) changes almost weekly. If you see the
pork tenderloin with sage wrapped in prosciutto, don't think twice. The only culinary disappointment:
Charlie's signature dish, the sea scallops sandwich, is only available in New York. -- Las Vegas Life

Review: Ex-Hollywood producer and restaurateur to the stars, Victor Drai, brings a very upscale

Review: Creating a new standard of excellence in French food, Executive Chef Marc Poidevin
and Pastry Chef Patrice Caillot push the envelope nightly with such succulent offerings as black-tie
scallops (tied with black truffles), consomme de boeuf with foie gras ravioli, salade mesclun,
roasted duck with a honey-spice fig glaze, and roasted lobster in a port wine sauce--all of which
are simple, exotic and perfect. Follow these with ethereal desserts like the trio of crème brûlées,
bomboloni (Italian doughnuts filled with vanilla cream) or a dense, warm chocolate fondant.
Coat and tie are mandatory for gentlemen. -- Las Vegas Life

Review: A minor gem in an unlikely location, this attractive room turns out old-fashioned Continental fare
at reasonable prices. A mature, well-versed wait staff keeps tableside preparations flaming and
customers happy with classics like beef Wellington, fettuccine Alfredo, and steak au poivre.
A decent wine list and good selection of cordials make this a good alternative to the many
overpriced 'gourmet' rooms in other hotels. -- Las Vegas Life
